Neon brights

I am just LOVING this weather! 70 degrees again in March! I had an amazing day today hanging at my good friend’s (and fellow awesome blogger’s) house, helping her purge her wardrobe, and get rid of things she does NOT need. God, I need to do the same thing! LOL

I threw on this new top I got from Zara, which was slightly sheer, and gave me the ideal chance to show off my neon pink bra from Victoria’s Secret. This is another great way to wear neon that isn’t too much “in your face”.  It’s a hint of color, and a great way to brighten up a plain top. I had to also take out my cobalt blue Celine luggage tote again. Now that the weather is getting warmer, I will definitely be wearing this a lot more. LOVE the cobalt blue mixed with other neons as well. How are you wearing neon this season so far?  More photos after the break. 😉

Shopping day in the city

I went window shopping in Manhattan today with my best friend Debbie. Again, it was a gorgeous March day, 80 degrees. I can’t believe I am wearing sandals in March! Right now is a great time to take advantage of tons of clearance sales, as shops are looking to get rid of their Winter items and get ready for Spring. We hit a ton of stores with just that in mind.I wore my Ash sandals, cool Old Navy blouse, and took out my Vintage Chanel flap. 😉

I fell in love with these Alice & Olivia Wedge sandals!

Best Sushi in Manhattan at Lilli & Loo!

Mango and Almond frozen yogurt was the end to a perfect day 😉

My boyfriend just got featured on Channel NY1!

Yesterday, Channel NY1 reached out to feature my boyfriend Chris in a special news segment (you can see me sitting next to him in the video)!  He’s been getting a lot of press for his impressions and comedy. My boyfriend, like me, is an actor, comedian and writer.  He also does amazing impressions – and he’s been making some serious coin with them. Basically, people looking to do something a little different for a gift, can pay him to prank call people as Christopher Walken, Alec Baldwin, Tony Soprano, any many more characters, all through a website called Fiverr. Naturally, orders for Christopher Walken are always in high demand, and the most popular on Chris’s page.  😉

Check it out and get someone you love the perfect birthday gift at www.fiverr.com/jerseyferretti. You can also see Chris’ hilarious videos on his youtube channel at www.youtube.com/chrisferretti.

After the interview we took advantage of the beautiful weather and took a couple of quick snapshots in Astoria. I wore my Balenciaga leather jacket, but even that proved too heavy for this Spring, or as I like to say “the early Summer” weather! 🙂  Leave a comment below. Now we are off to get the biggest air conditioner ever to beat this sweltering heat. WOW! It’s only March! XOXOXO – Julie 😉

The Perfect Parka

It was a cold, dreary, dark day in NYC today, but that didn’t stop my boyfriend and I from spending some time in the park.  Today’s weather was a drastic change from the gorgeous, sunny, 71 degrees we enjoyed yesterday, but I am not complaining because it finally gave me a chance to feature my favorite parka in a blog post.  I have been lusting after the perfect parka for over a year now, and I finally found it!  I spotted this Dawn Levy Parka online, but it was a bit pricey for me at the time.  Sadly, I searched online for alternatives, but none matched the awesomeness of the Dawn Levy coat.  But then, the shopping gods smiled on me and I found it at Neiman Marcus for half price! I am in love! It’s super warm, and I love the fur hood!  I paired it with a casual dress from Forever 21, (last seen in this blog post), and my super comfortable (seriously, like sneakers) Jeffrey Campbell Litas. *** Really.  Buy a pair, they are amazing! Get them here. I also love my leopard Diego bag by Alexander Wang. The shape, animal print, and studs on the bottom all make for an incredible bag. We had a lot of fun today. No place like NYC. 😉

Cobalt blue and denim

Do you know it was 71 degrees in NYC today?  Do you realize that it’s March?!? Yes March! I don’t ever remember the weather being this warm in March in NYC, and I am a native New Yorker! Spring was in the air today, and it was gorgeous! I took advantage of this amazing weather to break out my sandals, light chambray shirt, and my cobalt blue Celine luggage tote for the first time. Sigh…..the color is spectacular isn’t it?? As you get to know me, and continue reading my posts, (I hope!), you will see that I always mix high end items, with totally low end affordable ones. I think it’s important to have “investment pieces” that you will have for years, and that you can mix with low priced, affordable items to elevate your look. This Celine luggage tote is just that for me. I think it’s an incredible bag. It fits a ton of stuff, even file folders, and it never looses it shape or gets too heavy.  The design is chic and timeless.  I believe this is the next great classic bag to own. I also have it in black. You can see my posts with it here and  here.

I hope you all enjoyed the weather today, whether you are in NYC or around the world! xo- Julie

Balenciaga and neon yellow

Today was a GORGEOUS day in NYC!! 75 degrees!! In March!!  I can’t believe it! 😉 It was the perfect excuse to take out my leather quilted Balenciaga Jacket. I absolutely LOVE this jacket.  It’s one of the many “investment” pieces I have, and it’s so worth it. Today was also the first day I took out my neon yellow Cambridge satchel. What an amazing color! I can see myself working this bright bag into many outfits this Spring and Summer.  (I may want it in another color!)  I am wearing Old Navy jeggings, they are super comfortable and I love this color for Spring. I also dug my Aldo suede wedges out of the closet and paired them with socks…….great way to wear sandals now while it’s still chilly!

As promised, here are my picks for some of the most affordable deals I found online for hot NEON items for Spring and Summer!  As I stated before, I don’t believe in spending a fortune on items that are trendy, because I don’t believe they will hold their value, or be in style the following season.   I have always believed in investing money on items that you can wear for years, i.e. a great pair of boots, an awesome designer handbag, or a gorgeous warm shearling coat. These are staples to have in your wardrobe that you will be reaching for in years to come. But a neon yellow bag? Or hot pink pants? Hmmmm I am not so sure. 😉  Also, it pains me to spend $250 on neon jeans, when I can easily buy 3 pairs in hot colors for $34.00 dollars each at Old Navy, or for $25.00 each at Forever 21. I would rather have more styles and colors to chose from in my closet, then have one pair at such a high price. Feel me?  Also if the neon trend is passe next year, won’t you feel bad about spending $250 on bright yellow pants?  Yea, I would too. 😉

So here are my picks for some awesome, affordable neon items online.

And……here is a reveal of the mouth watering Neon Yellow Cambridge satchel I recently purchased at Bloomingdales for 25 percent off! (It was only $130!!)  My best friend Debbie got the neon pink.  (I think we may have to trade sometimes LOL)

What do you think of my picks?  And my Cambridge satchel?? Let me know!

Neon yellow and army green

Just a few quick snapshots of me in Astoria today. I didn’t realize how much I LOVE neon yellow and army green together until I caught a glimpse of myself as I was walking out the door.  The bright yellow stands out against the neutral green, and somehow makes it more special. It was such a gorgeous day today in NYC that I decided to film some video on my beautiful block in Astoria. I plan on recording many more videos for you all, showcasing the latest fashion trends, and unique ways of putting different looks together.

The sunglasses are Lady Gaga for Barneys, last seen in this post.  The coat is a gorgeous parka that I haven’t revealed to you guys yet, but I plan on doing so this week. 😉 Also stay tuned for my special post on the best neon deals and steals out there right now. I will be posting that tomorrow. Happy Monday!!! xoxoxo

DYI: TWO TONE NAILS- Get the Salon look for less!!!

I know, I know…..you want that trendy, hot, chic salon look on your nails, but can’t afford to dish out $25 a pop, just to have your nails chip in a few days right?  I feel your pain!!! If you are like me, you love trying out new colors, designs, and styles on your nails, but having to constantly pay money at a salon just got way too expensive.  Well I wanted to share with you today an awesome trick I learned for doing your own two tone manicure at home…….and, the best part is, the materials cost me around $16, and I will be able to do this look over and over again at home!

For my two tone manicure, I decided to pick gold and hot pink as my colors. The great thing about this look is that the possibilites are endless, and you can chose any two colors that you like. My only guidelines are that you chose a color for the tips that will cover the base color.  (for example, doing gold over black might not work because the gold color may not fully cover the dark black polish. Experiment and use your own judgement. )

Start by painting your nails gold…………I used Orly Nail Lacquer in Luxe. (purchased in CVS for around $7.00)

After this base coat, (which I only applied ONE COAT btw), you have to wait for it to dry completely. After it has dried, you are going to carefully place circular reinforcement labels over each nail. I bought Avery Reinforcement Labels from CVS for $2.77. You get 560 of them, so this package will last a long time!!!!

Now, here is the fun part, Depending on the look you want, you can place the label at a different spot on each nail. For a French Manicure look, place the label lower on the nail. For a Reverse French Manicure look, place the label high, near the top of the nail. And for the look I wanted, aim for somewhere in the middle of your nail so the two colors sort of break up the nail. The choice is yours!

After the labels are firmly in place, (and make sure you press them down hard), paint the tips of your nails with the second color of your choice. In my case, I chose Orly Nail Lacquer in Purple Crush.(also purchased in CVS for around $7.00) It’s ok if you get polish on the white labels, that is what they are there for. 😉 Just polish beneath the circles and cover the entire bottom of the nail.  Now, here is a very important tip……DO NOT wait for the second color to dry to remove the labels! Remove them while your nails are still wet!  Finish with a top coat of your choice, and you are done!  Million dollar nails for less! Please tell me if you plan on trying this awesome look! #twotonemanicure
